Joe Pye Weed
A native perennial that can reach a towering 8' tall, Joe Pye Weed boasts an extended bloom time from late summer into fall. As soon as they open, the nectar rich 6-14" flower clusters buzz with visiting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, at a time when few other flowers are peaking. The fragrant blooms also make dramatic cut flowers. This low-maintenance native wildflower likes full sun and thrives in damp soil along the edge of ponds and stream banks, as well as in the back of a garden border. Give it plenty of room and it will spread to form impressive stands. Native to much of the eastern half of the US, Joe Pye Weed is adaptable to all the but the hottest and driest areas. Resistant to both rabbit and deer browsing. Other names include Eutrochium maculatum and Spotted Joe Pye Weed.
