Below this is a planting chart with the following planting instructions: âWhen and where to plant: Lettuce is a cool-weather crop; plant in early spring as soon as soil can be worked. Select a sunny location, loosen soil, and mix in some compost and rake smooth. Plant seeds at recommended depth, firm soil over seeds and keep seedbed moist. Repeat at 2 week intervals during cool weather spring and fall. For earliest crop, start seeds indoors.â
